If you're around the region on Friday, August 1, please consider coming to Encinal to see the premiere screenings of two new documentary shorts produced here this summer. The films mark the culmination of the very first Media del Monte program at Hecho en Encinal, a six-week intensive digital media institute for high school youth.

The screenings will be at 7:00 p.m. at the Schletze County Park in Encinal. (From Laredo -- From Cotulla )

Six La Salle County high-school youth are using professional production equipment to address issues important to them. The films, produced by the participants themselves, are: Quince, which addresses the local (Encinal, really) expression of the tradition of the Quinceanera; and No Importa Que, an exploration of local thinking about immigration. Running time for each will be in the neighborhood of 15 minutes, and the new documentarians will be on hand at the screening for discussion.
